Ekphrasis - Passages Between The Visible and Sayable
The articles in this book bear the traces of major discussions within the last twenty years of contemporary art in Turkey. Yet one can realize that the book goes far beyond this time span and geography. Moving back and forth on a so-called linear “historical progress”, Ekphrasis looks into the meaning of similar concepts in different time and space, and invites readers to think them concurrently. This work, therefore, can be seen as temporally overlapping thoughts of a single person. Or as thoughts embedded in a certain time frame and their pushing and dragging each other within a mind questioning their organization… Although they were not initially drafted for a predefined structure, the articles in this collection bear traces of a certain systematic reasoning in my point of view. This reasoning mainly deals with the search for a model of an aesthetic theory. Originally used in periodical publications and thus determined by the Zeitgeist, these articles can therefore easily form a network or a series of writing.
