Our region, from the Caucasus to the Middle East is experiencing great political and social turbulence. This unrest certainly has cultural repercussions. Cultural actors in the region are facing growing instability and isolation. The conditions seem to be unfavourable for most of the time for the sustainability of independent artistic endeavours. However, we witness the emergence and development of a new creative environment in these circumstances in the region. In Emerging Cultural Continent, cultural actors from the independent contemporary art scene from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Turkey explore these new forms and structures, and trace the transformation of the exisiting ones.
